IOWA CITY, Iowa — The top-ranked University of Iowa women’s wrestling team put on a show in its home opener. The Hawkeyes notched two wins, beating Central College, 44-0, and Cornell College, 43-0. In total, Iowa registered five pins and 13 tech. falls.

IOWA VS. CENTRAL COLLEGE
Sophomore Valarie Solorio started off the opener with a bang, winning by tech. fall over Gracie Pattison to give the Hawkeyes a 4-0 lead. At 110 pounds, No. 1 ranked Ava Bayless pinned Campbell Crabb in 27 seconds. At 117, freshman Harlee Hiller won by tech. fall (10-0) over Aniya Coleman in her Carver-Hawkeye Arena debut.

At 124, freshman Isabella Marie Gonzales won via forfeit. Then, a tech. fall win by freshman Bella Williams over Julia Kanne at 131 added to the Iowa lead. At 138, redshirt junior Ella Schmit got the pin over Esther Belzer. After three more technical falls by second-ranked Reese Larramendy at 145, Cadence Diduch at 160, and top-ranked Kennedy Blades at 180, the Hawkeyes had a 39-0 lead.

Then, to end the first dual at 207, No. 2 ranked Jaycee Foeller secured the pin over Gwendalyn Canney, closing out the win 44-0 win over Central College.

IOWA VS. CORNELL COLLEGE
Starting off the second dual, Sterling Diaz won via forfeit at 103 pounds. At 110 pounds, redshirt junior Nyla Valencia earned the tech. fall in her first match back from injury. Harlee Hiller wasted no time collecting a 22-second pin at 117. After two tech fall wins at 124 by fifth-ranked Cali Leng and at 131 by Karlee Brooks the Hawkeyes had 22-0 lead.

At 138, redshirt junior Ella Schmit pinned Averie Burke, before second-ranked Reese Larramendy collected her second win of the day by tech. fall at 145.

Three consecutive tech. fall victories by sophomore Cadence Diduch (160), No. 1 ranked Kennedy Blades (180), and No. 2 ranked Jaycee Foeller (207) followed, giving the Hawkeyes a 43-0 win over Cornell College.
