MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second consecutive season, Iowa State (4-9-4, 1-8-2 Big 12) ended its regular season in a draw, as it used a two-goal second half to tie Kansas State (7-6-5, 2-5-4 Big 12) on the road in each team’s season finale Thursday evening.
The Wildcats struck first, scoring midway through the first stanza, and took a 1-nil lead into the break. K-State then struck again a little under midway through the second half to take a 2-0 lead. But a pair of unanswered second-half goals from the Cyclones would knot things up and take things to a draw. Of Iowa State’s 20 goals on the year, 15 came in the second half of play.
Both Morgan Goodman and Taylor Spitzer scored for the Cyclones, as each recorded their fourth goal of the season. Gili Johnson would score her first point of the season, picking up an assist, while Ella Ciardullo picked up her team-high third assist of the year. Spitzer led the team in shots with four, while Ella Zimmerman had three, placing a team-best two on target. In net, Kasey Cannistraro went the distance, collecting four saves.
Both Rilyn Rintoul and Andra Mohler scored goals for the Wildcats on the night. Mohler scored first, cashing in on assists from Jayce Woodward and Rintoul. Rintoul then tallied her score in the second half, using feeds from Allison Marshall and Chloe Dillbick. Woodward and Rintoul had a Wildcat-high three shots, with Rintoul placing all three of her attempts on target. Between the pipes, Maddie Sibbing pulled down three saves while allowing a pair of goals.
The stats were pretty even on the night, with the Wildcats just edging the Cyclones in shots, 14-12. ISU held a slim advantage both in saves, 4-3, and corners, 6-4, while the Wildcats were definitely the more physically aggressive team, committing 22 fouls to ISU’s 10.
