IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa field hockey senior Milly Short has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

It is the first career weekly honor for Short and the fifth for the Hawkeyes this season.

The Worcester, England, native anchored Iowa’s defense, playing a team-high 112 minutes as the Hawkeyes shut out Michigan State and No. 13 Michigan.

Iowa’s defense held both teams to a combined 14 shots on the weekend, allowing only three shots on goal.

Short also scored on a penalty corner in Iowa’s win over Michigan State.

The Hawkeyes travel to Columbus, Ohio, to close out the regular season against Ohio State at Buckeye Varsity Field on Oct. 31 at noon (CT).
