IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa freshman Ella Magallan was named the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

It is the third time this year that Magallan has earned the award. She previously claimed the distinction on Sept. 10 after placing eighth at the Hawkeye Invite and on Oct. 8 after her performance at the Joe Piane Invite.

The freshman from Burleson, Texas, ran 21:59.2 in the 6,000 meters at the Pre-National Invite on Oct. 17 in Columbia, Missouri. This time was a near two-minute personal best. She finished fourth among Hawkeyes. Magallan has scored in all four of Iowa’s races this fall.

In total, it is the fifth time a Hawkeye has won a weekly conference award this season.
