ACGC Wins Convincingly over Riverside
October 17th, 2025 by Jack McGonigal
The ACGC Chargers defeated the Riverside Bulldogs 55-22 to complete a perfect regular season for the third consecutive year. The Chargers took advantage of four Bulldog turnovers and had multiple touchdowns from three different rushers.
ACGC began the game on defense stopping Riverside and forcing a Bulldog punt. It only took the Chargers two plays on their opening drive as Senior Running Back Joe Crawford dashed 76 yards to the house to open up the scoring for ACGC. Riverside answered on the next drive with Senior Running Back Jaxson Gordon finding the end zone from 31 yards out to tie the game at seven. The Chargers retook the lead on more of a methodical drive going down the field with a nine play 61-yard drive. Crawford struck again scoring from two yards out to put ACGC ahead 14-7.
The first of four Bulldog turnovers occurred on the second play of the following Riverside drive. ACGC scooped up the football and went to Senior Fullback Brexton Schneider for an early second quarter ten-yard touchdown run. All of a sudden it was 21-7 Chargers. After the score, ACGC pulls a trick out of the bag and hits Riverside with a pooch kick and the Chargers recovered. Once again, ACGC marched down the field and went back to Schneider from two yards out to go ahead 27-7 after a missed PAT.
On the next drive, Riverside down by 20 felt urged to attempt a fourth down conversion. The Bulldogs came up short and gave the football back to ACGC in Bulldog territory. Just a few plays later, Schneider continued his monster first half by scoring a third time from 31 yards out to put ACGC ahead 34-7 late in the second half. To end the second quarter, Riverside put the ball on the deck a second time and later an ACGC touchdown made the score 42-7 at halftime.
The Chargers began the second half with the football and went back to Crawford who busted out a big touchdown run from 29 yards out to make the score 49-7. On the next drive, Riverside punched in their second touchdown of the game with a one-yard Gordon score to make it 49-13 followed by a missed PAT. A bad snap on fourth down from ACGC, sailed over Senior Punter Oliver Wetzel’s head made it a 49-15 ballgame heading into the fourth quarter.
Both ACGC and Riverside would score one more time as the game ended 55-22 ACGC. Head Coach Cody Matthewson says getting ahead early was critical.
The versatility and depth have been a key success for his team and feels as if the right leader is in place.
The mindset for the Chargers is controlling the controllable as they enter postseason play.
Both ACGC and Riverside will discover their first-round opponents when the brackets are released this weekend.
