Hawkeyes earns back-to-back Diane Thomason Invitational titles

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s golf team claimed the team title at the Diane Thomason Invitational on Tuesday at Finkbine Golf Course, firing a 54-hole total of 889 (296-303-290). The Hawkeyes successfully defended their title, having also won the invitational last year.
Junior Maura Peters led Iowa with an even-par (72). The Pleasant Valley, Iowa, native has recorded back-to-back top 10 tournament finishes with a 54-hole total of 220 (75-73-72), finishing in a tie for fifth place. Making it her third top-10 career finish.
Senior Shannyn Vogler shot a 221 (76-72-72), rounding out a tie for eighth place. Vogler’s 221 marks a new season best and her second top-10 finish of her career.
Freshman Sunny Wang climbed 22 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 13th with a 54-hole total of 227 (75-80-72). Wang earned her first top-20 finish as a Hawkeye, finishing with three birdies and 13 pars during the final round of the Diane Thomason Invitational.
Senior Riley Lewis tied for 13th with Wang. Lewis recorded a 54-hole total of 227 (76-78-73), marking her fourth career top-20 finish.
Junior Ximena Benites closed Iowa’s lineup Tuesday, finishing the third round with an 81.
