Hawkeyes Complete Day 1 at Highlands Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team opened play at the Highlands Invitational on Monday, posting a 10-over-par at Chicago Highlands Golf Club to sit in ninth place after the first round.
Second round play was suspended due to darkness and will resume tomorrow morning. Iowa is currently nine-over-par in round two.
Senior Gage Messingham led the Hawkeyes with a one-over-par 73, recording Iowa’s best round of the day. Messingham’s performance included one eagle and three birdies, with two of those birdies coming on the back nine, placing him in a tie for 33rd.
Redshirt Freshman Grant Gudgel followed with a two-over-par 74. The Stillwater, Oklahoma, native birdied three holes on the front nine to turn at 35, finishing tied for 19th.
Junior Max Tjoa turned in a three-over-par 75, highlighted by two birdies on the back nine, landing him in a tie for 25th.
Sophomore Chance Rinkol posted a four-over-par 76, with two birdies on the back nine, while freshman Bennett Warren shot a five-over 77, recording two birdies on the front nine to round out the Hawkeye lineup.
