Atlantic School District Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen, Tuesday night, mentioned in a social media post, that the child who was struck Monday evening in Atlantic and later died at a hospital in Des Moines, was a student who was about to enter the 3rd Grade in the Atlantic Community School District.
Johnsen said “Out of respect for the family, we are not sharing the student’s name at this time. This is a devastating time for our entire school community, and we ask that we all support one another as we process this news. Counselors will be available at Washington Elementary for any students who may need support. To set up a time to meet with a counselor, please call the school office at 712-243-5234.”
The post included a link from the National Association of School Psychologists (https://tinyurl.com/ycydyp6j)  “which can help kids, teens, and adults process grief and loss.”  Dr. Johnsen said also, the District “Will share more information as appropriate and as we learn more. In the meantime, please join me in keeping the student’s family and friends in our thoughts.”
