Iowa Wraps Up Season at NCAA Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Iowa gymnastics team closed out its season at the NCAA Regionals on the campus of the University of Alabama finishing fourth in session I with a team score of 196.000. The GymHawks competed against No. 6 California, No. 11 Alabama, and North Carolina, delivering strong performances across all four events.

No. 6 Cal took first place with a 197.550, followed by No. 11 Alabama (197.275) and North Carolina (196.250).

Freshman Aurélie Tran led the way for the Hawkeyes, scoring a 39.275 in the all-around, while junior Karina Muñoz posted a 38.500. Fifth-year Adeline Kenlin tied for second place overall on beam with an outstanding 9.900. Two Hawkeyes matched their season-best scores to cap off a competitive postseason performance.

BEAM
Iowa opened the meet on beam, earning a 49.100 to start the competition strong. Sophomore Eva Volpe led off with a 9.725, followed by senior Ilka Juk’s steady 9.825. Junior Haley Tyson added a solid 9.800 with a stuck landing, and Tran made a strong NCAA debut with a 9.850. Kenlin anchored the rotation with a near-perfect 9.900, tying for second place overall in the event.

FLOOR
The GymHawks carried their momentum into the second rotation, posting a 49.175 on floor. Hanna Castillo led the squad with a 9.875, while Volpe and Muñoz matched each other with 9.850’s. Volpe’s score matched her season best. Tran and Tyson both contributed 9.800s, and freshman Sydney Turner matched her career-best with a 9.800. At the halfway mark, Iowa was in third place with a 98.275, trailing Cal and Alabama but ahead of North Carolina.

VAULT
Iowa moved to vault for the third rotation, scoring a 48.850. Junior Gianna Masella led off with a 9.750 to get things started for the GymHawks. Volpe followed with a 9.600, and junior Avery Chambers added a 9.700. Tran, Castillo, and Muñoz each posted 9.800s to close out the rotation strong.

BARS
The GymHawks closed out the meet on bars, recording a 48.875. Tran once again led the lineup with a 9.825, while Turner followed closely with a 9.800. Juk, Masella, and Muñoz all recorded 9.750s to round out the event.
