LOCAL GOVERNMENT NOTICES:

  • The Cass County Conservation Board, at their last meeting determined that the campground including the playground at Cold Springs, and all restroom facilities throughout the county parks system will remain closed until further notice.  The campground at Cold Springs park only has one community water source as well as one payment box/self-check-in location, and dump station.  These community areas were of concern to the Conservation Board as a place where everyone would be using them if the campground was opened.  All other parts of the Cass County Conservation Board system are open to public use and we encourage you to use them at this time, while still following guidelines for social distancing.  If you have any questions please call our office at 712-769-2372.
  • Cass County Treasurer’s and Recorder’s Offices is no longer meeting customers face to face.  We have a drop box outside the Courthouse door with instructions on it. These items will be processed on a daily basis.  As always you can call the office for specific instructions or needs.  Treasurer’s office 712-243-2975.  Recorder’s office 712-243-1692.
  • DNR office in Lewis is closed off to the public. You can make an appointment if you are in desperate need of something. (712) 769-2587.
  • Griswold City Hall and the Griswold Public Library are closed to the public until further notice. City Hall operations will continue as normal. Please contact (712)-778-2615 or griscity@netins.net if you have any questions or concerns. The Griswold Public Library will be offering curb side pick-up of books, movies, and other circulation items on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 – noon. Call (712)-778-4130 for more information or to reserve.
  • The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce office will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 23 – Tuesday, March 31st.  We will reassess as more mandates are implemented and/or lifted.  Staff will continue to be in the office to answer phone calls and emails. If an in-person contact is necessary, please call the office.
  • The Anita City Hall and the Anita Public Library are closed to the public until further notice, per Governor Reynolds proclamation of disaster emergency.  Please call (712)762-3746 for City Hall or email cityofanita@midlands.net if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you for understanding.
  • The City Clerk’s office in Atlantic is closed to the public.  A drop box is available in the lobby for payments and permits.  The Parks & Recreation office is closed to the public.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant will function normally but will be closed to the public.  Airport operations will remain normal.  Police, Fire and Street departments will operate normally.  The Animal Shelter is closed to the public and only available by appointment for animal claims and cremation services.  Dog licenses are due March 31 and may be obtained online.
  • Audubon County Courthouse – closed to the public unless a called appointment is made.
  • The Cass County Courthouse is closed to the general public. The offices will be fully staffed with personnel available to answer phone calls and assist with functions that can be accomplished online or by other remote means.  If it is absolutely essential that you come to the courthouse in person, please call first and staff members will be prepared to admit you to the building and assist you as expeditiously as possible to minimize health risk. Many forms and routine tasks can be completed online at: ttps://www.atlanticiowa.com/county You may even pay your taxes online. This is also a good place to locate information about specific courthouse offices and the contact information for each office. ​Some information and tasks can be taken care of with a phone call. The courthouse number is (712) 243-4570 with automated directory.  At this time, there is no plan to postpone court appearance dates that have already been set. If you are scheduled to appear in court, you are advised to check with your attorney to confirm the time and date. If you have other questions regarding a court appearance you may contact the Clerk of Court (712) 243-2105.
  • The Adams County Courthouse is closed to the public. Offices in the courthouse will remain open for phone calls, though. The various office staff will assist you by phone or e-mail. The website with a listing of County contact information can be found at www.adamscountyia.com. Additional information and updates can be found on the Adams-County-Iowa Facebook page.  Persons needing the Adams County Sheriff’s Office should use the east doors, with an intercom available for you to speak to Sheriff’s officials.
  • Montgomery County offices are closed to the public, until further notice. Montgomery County offices will remain open for phone calls, email business and by appointment only. The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors recommend suspending all public gatherings of 10 people or more at this time. The decision to keep all Montgomery County offices closed will be evaluated on a daily basis and our decisions will be based on current public health trends as well as guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and Center for Disease Control (CDC).
    In the meantime, some county services can be accessed online rather than coming to the courthouse. Many drivers license functions, tax payments, fine payments, etc. are quickly handled either online or by mail. Citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize these avenues rather than public exposure whenever possible. If you’re unsure if you can complete these services by mail or online

NISHNA VALLEY FAMILY YMCA:

  • YMCA is closed until further notice. TLC and Ann Wickman are still operating.

LOCAL SPORTING EVENTS:

CHURCH CLOSINGS:

  • Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic – They are having 20 minute Church services at 8:00am, 8:45am, 9:15am, 10:00am, 10:45am and 11:30am.  This will consist of 9 persons and Pastor McBee. Holy communion will be part of the service.  You will need to call the Church (712-243-2927) to let us know when you are going to come.The Kids Come First program will start again on April 1, 2020.  Call 712-243-7797 for information.  You can watch the Church Services on the web site (www.zionatlantic.com). This will include the Lenten services and the Church Services.  Also, the announcements. They also, have DVD disks of the services you can use if you don’t have an internet set up. The  broadcasts will be on the usual times of 1:00pm and 7:00pm on the T.V.  You can listen to a service on KJAN at 10:00am on Sunday Morning.
  • First Church of Christ, Atlantic is holding closed services until April 6.  They can be joined online in a group meeting on Facebook or viewed later.
  • First United Methodist Church in Atlantic  – All activities with the exception of small groups have been cancelled until further notice
  • Bethany Evangelical Free Church near Exira has cancelled all activities until further notice.
  • Anita & Wiota Methodist churches – worship services are cancelled until further notice.
  • All congregational worship services at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon will be available through facebook or DVD. We will not be having onsite congregational worship or activities through March 31st. Sunday services are 9 am, and Wednesday Lenten services are 7 pm.
  • Worship services and Sunday school at First Lutheran church in Wiota are canceled until further notice.
  • Holy Trinity-Exira & St. Patrick’s-Audubon are cancelling all Masses (daily & weekend), religious education, Lenten mission & all other activities until further notice.
  • Services at the Massena United Methodist Church have been cancelled until further notice.
  • Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut will not be having worship services or Sunday School on March 29th.
  • Worship services, including the Wednesday evening Lenten services, at Exira Lutheran and Brayton Lutheran are cancelled until further notice.
  • Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita – all services cancelled until April 1st.
  • St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1 mile south of Lyman – worship and Sunday School cancelled for March 29th and April 5th. There will be no other activities (diaper-making, Bible studies, women’s fellowship, etc.) until April 1. They will plan to worship together again on Easter Sunday, April 12.
  • St. Paul’s Lutheran Church services are cancelled for the following dates:Saturday, March 28, Sunday March 29.
  • United Church of Christ in Atlantic has cancelled all Wednesday and Sunday services until further notice.
  • Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic has cancelled the weekly community dinners.
  • Saints Peter & Paul Knights of Columbus Fish Dinners at the Catholic Parish Center in Atlantic are cancelled until further notice.
  • SS Peter & Paul, Atlantic and St. Mary’s, Anita Catholic Churches have cancelled mass until further notice.  Father Trevor will be celebrating mass online on the KJAN.TV page at kjan.com each Sunday at 10:30 am.
  • Griswold United Methodist Church will not be having worship service or Sunday school March 29.
  • Methodist Church in Audubon cancelling all services for the rest of the month.
  • Atlantic Evangelical Free Church has suspended services and programs through April 10.  Please contact the church office at 243-4738 for our online church service information.
  • Lewis Congregational Methodist Church – is closed through April 4th for church services and all activities.
  • Adair Lenten services are cancelled until further notice.
  • The Adair Presbyterian Church and the Canby Friends Church are closed until further notice.
  • Elk Horn Lutheran has prayerfully decided to suspend all public group activities for the next four weeks. These are the following worship dates that will be publicly suspended: Sunday, March 29; Wednesday, April 1; Sunday, April 5; Thursday, April 9; Friday, April 10.  All activities are cancelled, including: All Soup Suppers, All Bible Studies, All Confirmation classes, All Committee meetings, Acolyte Training, Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Reduced worship services will be made available online and a private confirmation service will be provided on April 5 at 9:30 a.m.  The doors of the church will remain open for anyone wishing to come in and pray.  Blood Mobile will be available on Monday, March 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Donors will be screened by Red Cross staff.  Any funerals will be held in conjunction with recommendations from funeral homes and local authorities.  A notice of a special meeting of the congregation was sent out 3/16. That meeting may be postponed at council’s discretion.  This schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the community.  Pastor’s Keith Menter and Loren Christensen will be available for pastoral emergencies. BUSINESSES:

Cass County Health System is indefinitely postponing several upcoming public events. This measure is being taken to help protect the health of our community from the spread of COVID-19. The impacted events include:

  • The CCHS Foundation Gala scheduled for March 28, 2020 is postponed until further notice.
  • All Healthy U sessions are postponed until further notice.
  • All Healthy U & Baby, Too! sessions are postponed until further notice.

As this situation progresses, we will keep the public updated about other postponements or cancellations.

LOCAL EVENTS:

  • Museum of Danish America – annual piano recital that would have taken place on May 2 has been cancelled.
  • Coon Rapids American Legion Fish Fry scheduled for April 3rd is cancelled.
  • The Audubon Country Players dinner theater “Death by Chocolate” scheduled for April 3, 4, 5 is postponed.  They hope to hold the event on August 7, 8, 9 at the Audubon High School.  Ticket costs will be refunded by contacting Peggy Smalley.
  • The 2020 Tivoli Fest Committee announced it has decided to cancel the annual festival due to the uncertainty posed by the COVID-19 public health emergency.  Tivoli Fest is Elk Horn’s annual Danish heritage festival that traditionally occurs over the Memorial Day weekend.  This would have marked the forty-first year of the celebration.
  • Audubon County Pheasant Forever Banquet scheduled for March 28th will be held on Saturday, June 6th.
  • Atlantic BPW Craft Show on April 4th at the Cass County Community Building has been cancelled. Look forward to their Fall Craft fair on October 22nd.
  • Cass County Genealogical Society meeting on March 26 is cancelled.
  • The Atlantic High School Trades and Local Employer Recruiting Day (originally scheduled for April 2) has been postponed. A reschedule date is yet to be determined.
  • Out of the highest regard for public health and the well being of participants & attendees Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers has decised to cancel the National Police Memorial Week Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
  • Massena Lions Bingo for Saturday nights has been cancelled for the season.
  • City of Carson’s Fire Department Fish Fry scheduled for March 28th has postponed to September.
  • There will be no bingo at Anita American Legion thru the end of March.  At that time it will be re-evaluated.
  • Warren Cultural Center – Dave Moore Concert scheduled for April 4th is postponed.
  • Atlantic BPW were scheduled to present Joseph Hall America’s Got Talent winner and Elvis Presley impersonator in Atlantic on Friday, March 27th, at 7:30 pm, at the Cass County Community Building. That performance has been postponed to Friday, May 22nd.
  • The Iowa Aviation Museum in Greenfield’s 23rd Annual Chili Fly-In/Drive-In scheduled for April 4th is postponed.
  • Avoca Bingo is cancelled until May 1st.
  • Exira Mason’s 2nd Scholarship Breakfast scheduled for March 29th at Brayton Town Hall is indefinitely postponed. Possible reschedule for later this spring.
  • Southwest Iowa Buy Local Expo in Red Oak scheduled for April 4th has been postponed.
  • Coon Rapids American Legion Bingo is cancelled for 1 month as of March 16th.

OTHER SCHOOL EVENTS:

NOTICES:

  • Atlantic Parks and Recreation office will be closed until further notice. All recreational activities have been suspended as well. The parks are still open, but the bathrooms will remain closed. Please remember to continue safe practices at the parks. The parks will remain open but the Parks and Recreation Department DOES NOT encourage children to play on the playground equipment. Think “Park not Playground”. The Covid-19 (Coronavirus) can remain infectious for hours up to 9 days depending on the material and the playground equipment cannot be properly sterilized. Along with the playgrounds all the restrooms will remain closed to limit the locations where the virus can remain infections and shelter reservations will not be accepted to limit the sizes of groups using the parks. Sunnyside Tennis Court is now closed to the public as well.

  • Lewis Public Library closed until further notice. If you have books that need to be return, you may return them in the book drop,which is located, in the back of the library.
  • Cumberland Public Library is closed for a month. If you have books, don’t return them keep them for now.(effective 3/17)
  • Elk Horn Public Library has cancelled all programming for now.
  • Atlantic Public Library – is closed.  The Atlantic Public Library is no longer offering curbside delivery of materials. We were planning to be closed March 26 through April 4 for renovation work. The situation will be re-evaluated once lobby work is completed.  Staff will be working and able to answer phones, e-mails, and texts Monday through Friday.
