Atlantic dominates Clarinda to advance to Regional Semifinal

The Atlantic girls basketball team dominated from start to finish in a Class 3A Substate Quarterfinal win over Clarinda 58-14 on Saturday night. After a couple of shaky possessions to start the game, Atlantic settled in and jumped out to a 18-2 lead by the end of the first. They ramped the lead up to 45-6 by half and the rest of the game ticked away quickly with a running clock in place. After the game McKenzie Waters discussed the pressure that helped Atlantic get going.

Haley Rasmussen had a big night with 27 points, all coming in the first half. Rasmussen talked about her team doing a good job of working to get others open.

Taylor McCreedy added 9 and Jada Jensen finished with 8 as the Trojans improved their record to 9-13.

Atlantic advances on to the 3A Region 8 Semifinals on Wednesday night. The Trojans will travel to face the Red Oak Tigers at 7:00 p.m. in that contest. Red Oak was a 68-55 winner over Shenandoah on Saturday. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason said the Trojans are excited for another crack at the Tigers.

Jessalee Niehart led the Cardinals Saturday with 8 points. Clarinda has their season end with a record of 2-20.
