Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said Friday evening, that the DNR is investigating the report of an ongoing wastewater discharge at the city of Elliott’s wastewater lagoon. The DNR’s Atlantic field office received a video showing the discharge Friday afternoon. DNR inspectors were en route to the Montgomery County city to work with the city to stop the discharge and to collect water samples.

Residents should keep children and pets away from the East Nishnabotna River downstream of Elliott while the discharge continues. The extent of the problem and the amount of discharge is unknown at this time. DNR will continue to monitor the situation and repairs, and may seek appropriate enforcement action.
