IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz wants his players focused on little more than football during fall camp. That’s why fans get one chance to see what the Hawkeyes might look like when they open the season in two weeks.

Iowa’s annual mid-camp open practice, held Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, is the only public glimpse of the Hawkeyes in August. It’s also typically the only time coach Kirk Ferentz provides updates on the program.

Ferentz says fullback Adam Cox is out for the season after tearing a knee ligament. But he also praised the competition for starting spots and kicker and punter, even though Iowa’s placekickers looked shaky on Saturday.
