Behind a 4-RBI performance from Corey Harrell, and a complete game shutout from pitcher Otis Roby, Twin Cedars defeated Underwood, 7-0, in the Class 1A state quarterfinals Saturday at Principal Park in Des Moines. The Underwood Eagles finish the season with a record of 23-8. The top-ranked and second-seeded Sabers (34-0) are in the semifinals for the second straight season.

Blake Wiltgen threw a complete game, one-hit shutout as LeMars Gehlen Catholic defeated Lone Tree 3-0 in the last of the Class 1A state quarterfinals at Principal Park Saturday afternoon. Wiltgen (9-1) recorded 10 strikeouts for the Jays in the win. Gehlen (30-3) will take on Twin Cedars Thursday at 2 p.m in a semifinals matchup at Principal Park.

Top-seeded Mason City Newman Catholic used three first-inning runs and Spencer Whilm pitched 6.1 innings for the Knights to start their defense of their state title with a 7-1 win over BGM in the Class 1A state quarterfinals Friday at Principal Park. The Bears finish the season with a record of 25-3.
