Plea made in Guthrie County break-in and theft

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reports a Cerro Gordo County man has entered a plea of guilty to a charge of Theft in the 1st degree, in connection with a break-in and theft at McAlister’s and Son’s, in Bayard. Todd Hambly, of Swaledale, was arrested and charged following a lengthy investigation that began on May 21st 2013,  when the Guthrie County Sheriffs Office was contacted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office after a break in at McAlister & Sons at 1924 Hwy 141, Bayard.

McAlister & Sons had been broken into and several brass bushings for heavy construction equipment had been taken. The value of the property exceeded $ 70,000 in replacement cost. The Guthrie County Sheriffs Office worked with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office in the tracking of Todd Hambly.
Investigation eventually led to Todd Hambly and his girlfriend taking the stolen items to Inver Grove, Minnesota and selling the property at the scrap yard.

The investigation continued for several months until Todd was arrested on multiple felony charges from several agencies. The agencies include Cerro Gordo County, Hardin County, Butler County, Grundy County, Franklin County and Jasper County who worked with the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office in solving several cases in those Iowa counties. Hambly received a 10 (ten) year sentence consecutive to sentences received from Hardin County, Cerro Gordo County, Franklin County, Adair County, Butler County, Grundy County and Jasper County. Van Buren County has pending charges on him.
