Atlantic Activities Director Josh Rasmussen announced today that Alan Jenkins has been hired as the boys head basketball coach.  Jenkins, a 2003 AHS graduate, comes to Atlantic from the Council Bluffs school district.

He says he is excited about the opportunity and always dreamed about the chance to come home.  Jenkins will teach 7th grade social studies, the same position he held in Council Bluffs.

This will be his first try as a boys basketball head coach.  He spent five years as an assistant boys basketball coach at Abraham Lincoln High School, as well as three years as an assistant football coach and two years as the head track coach.  Jenkins feels that his experience, along with the experience of those he will surround himself with, will help the program moving forward.

He says he favors an uptempo style of play, but will tailor the scheme to best suit his kids.

Jenkins replaces Steve Blazek, who retired after the current season that saw the Trojans finish with a record of  22-2.  The top seven players from that team have graduated, but Jenkins says he is ready to begin working with the players coming back at all grade levels to cultivate a strong program for years to come.

Jenkins is an Iowa State University graduate who spent two years on the men’s basketball practice squad.  He also played one year at Buena Vista University before transferring to ISU.  The hire is subject to school board approval.
