Sheriff’s officials in Pottawattamie County report an Oakland man and a woman from Hancock were injured Sunday evening, when the utility vehicle they were riding in went out of control and flipped over. The accident happened about four-miles west of Hancock, at around 5:45-p.m., as Caleb Bryant, of Oakland, and Lisa Hunt, of Hancock, were traveling in a 2012 Yamaha utility vehicle owned by another Pott County resident.

Authorities say the pair were traveling eastbound along the grass edge of a cornfield near 410th and Mahogany, when the vehicle flipped and landed on its wheels. Bryant was transported by Lifenet Helicopter to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, for treatment of his injuries. Hunt was transported by Oakland Rescue to Mercy Hospital. Officials say she was wearing her seat belt, but it’s not clear if Bryant was buckled into the machine.

The utility vehicle sustained major damage during the crash. Officials say alcohol is believed to have played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.
