Issues like new education spending, property tax reductions and Medicaid expansion remain unresolved. A key deadline is June 30th, because a budget must be in place before a new fiscal year begins on July 1st.

CLINTON, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are still searching for one of the two men who escaped from an eastern Iowa jail this weekend. The Clinton County Sheriff’s office says Kendrell Keith and Kyle Julian escaped around 4:40 p.m. Saturday. Both men are 18 years old. Keith was captured at 11:49 p.m. Saturday in Clinton. Julian had not been found as of Sunday morning.

OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — The Wapello County sheriff’s office is investigating the apparent theft of 27 cows near Ottumwa. Wapello County Sheriff Chief Deputy Don Phillips says the cattle were stolen sometime during a four-month period during the winter. The farmer called the sheriff’s office Wednesday after doing a herd count.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman is accused of hanging one of her boyfriend’s three dogs in their garage. Twenty-eight-year-old Sheena Cornwell allegedly told police after her arrest on Saturday that she killed the dog because it was old and sick. Cornwell’s boyfriend told police he wanted to get a restraining order against her.
