DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa lawmakers are considering legislation that would eliminate a tool used to track uninsured children. House Republicans voted this week to repeal the requirement on a state income tax form that parents indicate whether or not their dependent children have health insurance. The bill’s Republican supporters say health insurance has nothing to do with filing an income tax return. But critics say by eliminating this tool, uninsured kids may fall through the cracks.

OSAGE, Iowa (AP) — An inmate in the Mitchell County Jail has died, and officials are investigating the cause of his death. Sheriff Greg Beaver says that 32-year-old Christopher Servantez of Mason City,was pronounced dead Thursday evening at the Mitchell County Regional Hospital. Beaver says he is awaiting toxicology results to determine what killed Servantez.

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A Coralville man has been arrested, accused of firing a rifle into a parked car. Police arrested 56-year-old Michael Bell early Thursday morning. Bell faces charges of reckless use of a firearm and second-degree criminal mischief.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Chelsea Poppens scored 19 points, Hallie Christofferson scored 11 of her 18 in the second half, and fifth-seeded Iowa State defeated Number 12 seed 72-60 yesterday. The lady Cyclones finally solved beating Gonzaga at home thanks to dynamic shooting from behind the 3-point line and an awful shooting performance by the Bulldogs. Brynn Williamson hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points for ISU in Spokane, Washington.
