ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa soldier who died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan last week is being remembered for his love of flying. The U.S. Defense Department said 27-year-old Staff Sergeant Steven Blass of Etherville was one of five soldiers killed in the March 11th crash. One of Blass’ childhood friends, Brandon Johnson tells the Des Moines Register that Blass loved flying Black Hawk helicopters.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities are investigating a crash that killed a Dubuque woman while she was walking. The fatal crash happened around 5:30 p.m. yesterday evening. More details are expected to be released today.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Rapper Tone Loc didn’t want to be hospitalized after collapsing on stage during a weekend performance in Iowa. Loc, whose real name is Anthony T. Smith, collapsed after finishing a song during a Saturday night concert on a downtown Des Moines bridge. The concert ended abruptly while the 47-year-old was treated. Loc’s representative did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment yesterday.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State has earned a 10th seed in the NCAA tournament and will face Notre Dame in Dayton, Ohio on Friday. The Cyclones (22-11), led by third-year coach Fred Hoiberg, have earned back-to-back NCAA tournament bids for the first time in 12 years.
