DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Legislation designed to improve police response when children go missing has won Senate subcommittee approval. Sponsor Sen. Jeff Danielson says he hopes the bill would prevent cases like one that occurred last summer, when two young cousins from Evansdale went missing July 13. Their bodies were found in December.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A house fire in eastern Council Bluffs killed a man and caused extensive damage to the two-story home. Firefighters found the man’s body inside the home after extinguishing the fire yesterday afternoon. The fire destroyed most of the interior of the home and blackened part of the outside. Police did not immediately identify the victim.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The state’s top nursing regulator has retired unexpectedly and an associate director also has left with little explanation. The Des Moines Register reports Monday that Lorinda Inman, executive director of the Iowa Board of Nursing since 1988, chose to retire after state officials investigated complaints about human resources issues.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The trial of a Waterloo man accused of killing his 18-month-old son has been delayed again. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports 23-year-old Daniel Reddout won’t be tried until at least June 24 because there were problems scheduling expert witnesses.
