Stuart man injured in a motorcycle accident last week

(Guthrie Center, IA) – The operator of a motorcycle was seriously injured during an accident last week, in Guthrie County. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Andrew Nathaniel McBurney, of Stuart, was riding a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on White Pole Road near the intersection with 2345 Trail, when he lost control of the machine while traversing a curve. The motorcycle entered the south ditch and hit the ground before striking a bridge. The accident happened at around 3:10-p.m. on June 15th. The Sheriff’s Office says McBurney was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $4,000.

There were two other, non-injury accidents last week in Guthrie County:

At around 11:25-p.m. on June 18th, a vehicle driven by 80-year-old Lynn Roy Sparks, of Guthrie Center, struck a car driven by 56-year-old Tanya Renee Sneller, of Panora, causing an estimated $3,000 damage altogether. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says Spark’s 2015 Ford Edge was traveling east on Bluff Street in Guthrie Center, and at the intersection with 13th Street, turned north. His SUV struck Sneller’s 2021 Hyundai Elantra, as she was at a complete stop and in the correct turning lane at the T-intersection. A witness to the collision said Sparks appeared to be having difficulty slowing his vehicle before it struck the car. No citations were issued.

The other accident happened at around 10:40-a.m. on June 19th, at the intersection of Highway 141 and Main Street in Bayard. Authorities say a 2022 Chevy Express passenger van driven by 45-year-old Mandy Jean Rath, of Audubon, was stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 141, with the left turn signal, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so she could turn north onto Main Street.

A 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 22-year-old Abram Matthew Lynn Miller, of Decorah, was following the Chevy van in the same direction. Miller didn’t realize Rath’s vehicle was stopped. His van rear-ended the Express van, causing a total of $5,000 damage, according to the Sheriff’s Department. No citations were issued.
