The Griswold Tigers’ defense shined in their 20-6 victory over East Mills on Friday night. They forced four turnovers which included a momentum shifting 80 yard pick 6 by Callen Kaiser to make it 14-6 to start the third quarter. That pick-6 was Kaiser’s second touchdown of the evening. His first TD came in the first quarter on a great 4th down pass from Dain Laverty. The Tigers took the great play of Kaiser and the defense to a Week 0 win and their first 1-0 game in 12 years.
Griswold got out to a hot start with Colton Frieze’s interception on the first defensive possesion. Griswold turned that into six on a beautiful 4th down touchdown pass from Dain Laverty to Callen Kaiser. Laverty was forced out of the pocket and floated a great pass to an open Kaiser. The first half was quiet for the most part until Khayden Poorker found the endzone on a scramble near the end of the half. Callen Kaiser’s pick 6 to start the 2nd half was the momentum they needed to get the victory. Quentyn Ruchti-Wilson took his first carry of the game in for a four yard touchdown and sealed a 20-6 victory for the Griswold Tigers.
Griswold Head Coach Seth Lembke spoke after the big win:
Alex Rasmussen is a big part of the Tigers offense, but it wasn’t until later in the game that he really got involved
Dain Laverty stepped up in his first game as the full time Griswold quarterback. He delivered a passing touchdown in the first quarter and had multiple big runs
There is plenty to build off for the rest of the season following a two possession victory
The Tigers move to 1-0 on the season, matching their win total from 2025. They head to Stanton next week as they look to improve to 2-0.
