5 injured, including 2 children, in a SE IA crash Tue.

(Keokuk County, IA) – A total of five people, including two children, were injured in a chain-reaction crash Tuesday afternoon, west of Sigourney, in southeast Iowa. According to the Iowa State Patrol the crash happened at the intersection of Iowa Highways 92 and 21, at around 12:22 p.m.

The report says a Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department 2019 Dodge Charger driven by 34-year-old Megan N. Tucker, of Oskaloosa, was eastbound on Highway 92 and approaching the Highway 21 junction. A 2026 Dodge Durango driven by 32-year-old Sabrina R. Ryan, of What Cheer, was stopped at the stop sign facing southbound on Highway 21. When the SUV left the the stop sign to continue southbound, Ryan failed to yield to the Dodge Charger, which hit the SUV broadside.

The impact caused the SUV to slide into a 2025 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer, which was stopped at the intersection northbound on Highway 21. Both the drivers of the car and SUV were injured, along with two children in the SUV, ages 5 and 2. The other injured party was identified as 47-year-old Dawn M. Nickel, of Ottumwa. All of the injured were wearing their seat belts. Ryan, the two children and Deputy Tucker were transported to the Mashaska Hospital. Dawn Nickel was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital. The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Mark S. Harvey, of Albia, was not hurt.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Keokuk and Mahaska County Sheriff’s Offices, along with multiple other agencies.
