The National Weather Service offices in Valley, Nebraska and Des Moines (IA) have compiled reports on events related to the Friday, May 15th storms the crossed western Iowa:
At around 6:23-p.m., Mills County Emergency Management reported two-miles north of Randolph, farm augers were blown-over and grain wagons were moved by high winds.
At 6:37-p.m., the Fremont County Emergency Management Agency reported trees were downed by high winds in Imogene in Tabor a few minutes later, in Emerson, near the cemetery.
1-inch diameter hail was reported one-mile northeast of Emerson at around 6:43-p.m. At 6:54-p.m., trees and power pole fell, and power outages were reported, in Red Oak. The Red Oak Airport automated weather observation system (AWOS) recorded a 74-mph gust of wind at 6:59-p.m.
A 58-mph gust of wind was recorded by a personal weather observation station (PWOS)at around 7:02-p.m., in Stanton, and a59-mph gust was recorded in Villisca. Damage was reported to siding and roofing in Stanton.
In Adams County, trees and/or trees limbs fell at around 7:20-p.m., as a result of high winds in Corning
Elsewhere in Iowa: Hail ranging in size from ping-pong to tennis balls caused significant damage to structures and vehicles in Hancock County. One-inch diameter hail (the size of a quarter) was reported to have occurred in parts of Emmet and Pocahontas Counties, while golf ball-size hail (1.75″ in diameter) fell in parts of Kossuth County.
