ATLANTIC- The Atlantic Trojans got the ground game churning and put together a
complete win over Denison-Schleswig 36-7 on Friday night at the Trojan Bowl. Ethan
McNeal rushed for three touchdowns, including a 71-yarder and Jake Wailes plowed in
for another score to help the Trojans improve to 1-1 on the season.
The game started a little slow with three punts and missed field goal between the two
teams on the first four possessions but then Atlantic got things moving. Atlantic capped
off a 15 play drive that poured over into the second quarter with a 12-yard touchdown
pass from James Brauer to Zander Killion. Denison-Schleswig rolled the dice on their
next possession, going for a 4 th and 1 on their own 29-yeard line. The Trojans stuffed
the Monarchs attempt and two plays later got a 14-yard touchdown run from Ethan
McNeal to make it 13-0 after the PAT was missed.
Atlantic would add a field goal just before halftime from Zander Killion to lead 16-0 at the
break. That kick came after Grant Petty suffered a serious leg injury while hauling in a
first down catch to put Atlantic at the 18-yard line with under 30 seconds left.
The momentum fully went the Trojans way when Zander Killion took a fake punt 34
yards to keep their first drive of the half alive. McNeal capped it off with an 18 yard
score and Atlantic pulled away.
McNeal would add a long 71-yard score and Jake Wailes had a 7-yard score. Atlantic
improved to 1-1 on the season and will head on the road to play Des Moines Christian
next week.
