(Atlantic, IA) – Atlantic School District Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen mentioned to the School Board during their meeting Wednesday evening, that the district is working on bringing back “Portrait of a Trojan,” referring to the core values and goals set for students. The Portrait of a Trojan focuses on four main traits:
- Be Resilient: Students learn to bounce back from tough problems.
- Integrity: Doing the right thing when nobody is looking.
- Communicate Effectively: Sharing thoughts and ideas clearly with others.
- Pursue a Passion: Finding what you love and working hard at it.
The guide helps teachers and parents prepare students in the Atlantic School District for the real world, after they graduate.
Dr. Johnsen said the school’s Leadership Team feels the program is a “Good talking piece” for all grade levels – staff and students – to think about.
And, as mentioned in a separate report on KJAN, the Atlantic School Board, Wednesday, approved a recommended proposal for 2026-27 Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Coverage. Athletic Director Andy Mitchell said it’s with the same company – Peak Performance – the district dealt with last year.
Andy Mitchell told KJAN, Peak Performance will cover all the sports they covered last year, plus increase from 1 to 2 days a week for office hours.
