Griswold School Board votes to discontinue exploring 4-day school week

(Griswold, IA) – Members of the Griswold School Board, Monday evening, voted to discontinue discussions and further exploration of, a four-day school week. Superintendent Dave Henrichs told KJAN News their decision followed a review of a recent staff survey.

The same decision was reached in August 2023, with regard to the 2024-2025 school year, following mixed staff feedback, with surveys indicating a 50-50 split on instructional effectiveness.

The Griswold School Board did approve a handful of resignations.

They approved also, two new-hires.

Following a public hearing on the FY27 Griswold Community School District Budget, the Board later on in the meeting approved the budget as presented. Dave Henrichs said District Patrons should be pleased with the lowered tax asking.

In other business, the Griswold School Board approved the purchase of a used, 2024 Thomas School Bus with 32,000-miles, for $70,000. They also approved a copy machine lease, the list of 2026 graduates. Henrichs said there are 26 Seniors graduating this year.

And, the Board approved continuing contracts with regard to the 2026-27 Transportation Director Sharing Agreement with Atlantic (The Atlantic School Board approved the agreement during their meeting April 22nd), and a 2026-27 School Business Official (SBO) Sharing Agreement with the Riverside School District.

Other action included the approval of the Master Contract for a School-based Interventionist, and contract renewals for Certified Staff, Coaches/Sponsors, Administration, Quasi-Administrators, and Support Staff.
