Atlantic, IA) – The former director of the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce who plead guilty to felony charges of Theft in the 1st Degree and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, will face sentencing in August.
Online court records show 33-year-old Bailey Linn Smith will receive her sentence during a hearing at 9-a.m. on August 17th, in Cass County. She faces a maximum of 10-years in prison on each charge, with no mandatory minimum, and fines as much as $13, 600 for the Theft charge, and a maximum of $10,000 for the unauthorized credit card use.
In addition to prison time and fines, offenders are generally ordered to pay full restitution to the victim or credit card issuer to cover all unauthorized purchases.
Smith resigned from the Chamber September 15, 2025. According to a criminal complaint, between January 2020 and August 2025, Smith made 761 personal transactions with Chamber funds amounting to more than $26,913, of which $6,632.38 was admitted to by Smith. She was charged with Theft in the First Degree for allegedly misappropriating over $10,000.
The Criminal Complaint said Smith used Chamber-issued credit cards amounting to more than $25,000 for personal expenses, with $6,632.38 acknowledged by her in a letter to the Chamber Board.
