Cass County Supervisors approve transit system agreement & other matters

(Atlantic, IA) – The Cass County Board of Supervisors, today (Tuesday), approved a Rural Transit System Joint Participation Agreement with SWIPCO/SWITA, an annual renewal of said agreement. Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken reported Secondary Roads Department crews have been hauling road rock and making repairs where necessary, following the recent severe storms and flooding of some county roads.

The Board discussed and approved bids for a bridge replacement project using a reinforced concrete box (RCB) culvert, on Buck Creek Road. Wolken said there were two bids for the project.

The Board approved a bid from Gus Construction in the amount of $298,494.

Cass/Guthrie County Environmental Health Executive Director Jotham Arber presented his regular report, during which he said the big thing for them that’s coming up, is soil analysis testing.

He mentioned radon testing that’s being done in conjunction with Cass County Public Health.

And discussions are underway with other counties with regard to regionalization of environmental and public health departments. Arbor says for anyone who has concerns over the rising cancer rates in Iowa, the first step is to get a free well water test.

In other business, the Cass County Supervisors approved wages and salaries for FY2026-27, and they passed a resolution to rescind a resolution previously passed, and revise the canvass of the June 2nd, 2026 Primary Election. Cass County Auditor Kathy Somers explained…
