Cass County Engineer’s report

(Atlantic, IA) – Cass County Engineer Trent Wolken, today (Tuesday, June 2nd) made a regular, scheduled report to the Cass County Board of Supervisors. Wolken said Secondary Road crews are finishing-up their Contract Rock projects, and a trial project that other pilot counties are participating in.

The spray-on rock stabilizer will be applied in a couple of weeks. Wolken said also, culvert pipe is on order that should be coming-in so they can begin work on some crossroad pipe projects, and box culverts.

He said also, crews are finishing-up work on a bridge north of the Adams County line, west of Highway 71 that began last year.

Wolken mentioned he’s working on an application for bridge grant funding that’s available State-wide.

Cass County participated in a similar program about five-years ago. He says they have a list of about 10 bridges that are in poor condition and have a certain traffic count criteria that may qualify. The past project was a box culvert on Olive Street off of Boston Street, in conjunction with Tama County.

Wolken said the process to grab some of the $32.5-million in grant funds from the state is very competitive, so the chance of getting more then two bridges completed is pretty slim.
