(Atlantic, IA) – In a follow-up to our previous reports announcing the City of Atlantic had received another Tree City USA Award, local Trees Forever spokesperson & dedicated volunteer Dolly Bergmann, Wednesday evening, appeared before the Atlantic City Council, and explained more about the award – which the City has received for the 30th time.
She explained what qualifies Atlantic, or any city for that matter, for the Tree City USA award.
Atlantic’s latest award was presented April 8th, 2026, at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny, on behalf of the Arbor Day Foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The new signs are bigger than those currently in-place.
They will be installed by Atlantic Parks and Rec Department staff as time allows. The City also received a new Tree City USA flag to be installed on the pole in the Atlantic City Park. A new flag is given to the City each time it is designated as a Tree City USA.
Atlantic Mayor Rob Clausen signed a Proclamation in honor of Arbor Day, following Bergmann’s presentation. Dolly Bergmann mentioned also, that Schuler 4thgraders will hold a tree planting on Arbor Day, at 2:30-p.m., on Arbor Day, Friday, April 24th.
A specific location was not immediately known, but the plantings have typically been along the walking path. The site will be easily recognizable by the setting of white flags.
