(Atlantic, IA) – The Atlantic City Council met during a regular session Wednesday, July 1st. During their session, the Council passed the First Reading of amended ordinance pertaining to mowing of residential properties, snow & ice removal from sidewalks, and solid waste removal nuisance abatement’s. On each ordinance, they waived the second and third readings, making those ordinances law, effective as of July. Each of the adjusted fee schedules for those respective ordinances was explained in a story June 28th on the kjan.com News page.
In addition to being published annually in the Atlantic News Telegraph, the City’s current nuisance abatement ordinance now includes the implementation of a “Courtesy Nuisance Program,” whereby temporary yard signs would be erected on properties where grass/weed violations are observed. Atlantic Mayor Rob Clausen explained…
City Administrator John Lund has said the signs would only serve as a courtesy reminder, and would not replace, modify or expand the notice requirements established by City Code, and are not intended for use during the snow/ice removal season.
In his report, Atlantic Mayor Clausen mentioned the “Dumpster Days” city-wide voluntary cleanup effort went “very well,” with a number of residents participating.
He said the City came in about $2,000 under budget for its part of the program. The Mayor also mentioned he rewarded some pre-schoolers with ice cream for their efforts at making Sunnyside Park look better through the pickup of trash.
No city funds were used to pay for the ice cream gift certificates. The Mayor also congratulated the Atlantic Trojan Hawkeye 10 Conference softball team on their undefeated season (20-0), and wished them the best of luck in post-season play and a bid for the State Championship.
