The Council then proceeded to pass Order to approve a Fireworks event permit for Dan Vargason (1303 Maple St.) conditional upon the Atlantic Trojan Softball Team hosting a regional softball final. The fireworks display will immediately follow the game, and not exceed two-minutes in length.

The Council acted also, on an Order designating Code Enforcement/Animal Control Officer Kris Erickson as the City of Atlantic Building Official authorized to enforce Dangerous Buildings designations. That was followed action on an Order to proceed with a Dangerous Building designation for 910 Hazel Street, which has been in disrepair for many years, and according to City Administrator John Lund, “Is a serious threat to [the] safety of anyone inside or near it, and is far beyond repair.”

Mayor Ron Clausen added more information on the City’s role in the matter, saying the City plans to purchase the house for about $7,500, which would be considerably less than having to go through the legal process of condemnation, and less time consuming, before the house is demolished.

The Council passed a Resolution pertaining to “Reclassifying Funds, Establishing New Funds, and Authorizing Transfer of Fund Balances in Accordance with the GASB 54” (a Government Accounting Standards Board statement), and a Resolution “Establishing the FEMA Disaster Recovery Capital Projects Fund and Providing for its Purpose, Funding and Use,” with regard to the creation of a dedicated FEMA fund. For the time being, the seed amount for the fund (If approved) would be $875,000.

The Council’s final action item was to approve an Order setting June 17, 2026 at 5:30-p.m., as the date and time for a Public Hearing on amending the FY2026 Budget. In his report, Mayor Clausen mentioned the City-wide Clean-up Challenge is underway.

He said also, a new volunteer group called “Keep Atlantic Beautiful,” headed by Councilman Shawn Sarsfield, is working to help clean-up properties in the City.

Councilman Jeremy Butler mentioned also, the Atlantic Rotary Club is working on a project involving Santa’s Cabin in the Atlantic City Park, as part of the City’s Beautification Committee. Rotary members he said have been instrumental in keeping up the Cabin and surrounding area since the Bicentennial in 1976.
