(Radio Iowa) – Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird joined her counterparts today (Wednesday) at the Republican Attorneys General Association meeting in Washington, D-C to recognize National Police Week. Bird says she believes it’s important to work with law enforcement and “Back the Blue.”
“We are very grateful for their service. And as a mom and a prosecutor, that means a lot to me. We want to keep people safe. We want to hold criminals accountable. And we want to be there for victims of crime,” she says. Bird says it is important to remember the officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
“They should never be forgotten, always appreciated for their heroism and for what they have given in our country,” Bird says. Bird says Iowa has passed several laws recently to crack down on crime, including one involving law enforcement.
“We have increased the penalties for those who would assault a law enforcement officer because we know when someone does that, is not just an assault against that officer. It’s an assault against the uniform, all of society and what we stand for. They are held accountable in Iowa,” she says. Bird says law enforcement and the Attorney’s General work together to enforce the rule of law for everyone.
