The National Weather Service has issued an EXTREME HEAT WATCH in effect from 1-p.m. Sunday through 9-p.m. Tuesday for most of the KJAN listening area, with the exception of Harrison and Shelby Counties, where a HEAT ADVISORY will be in effect from 1-p.m. Sunday through 9-p.m. Monday. The area will experience dangerously hot conditions with the heat index exceeding 100 degrees on multiple days.
- Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
- Excessive heat will persist through much of next week, potentially including the 4th of July weekend.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
