IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa earned an Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 994 as announced on Tuesday by the NCAA. That number exceeds the national average of 986. Six Hawkeye teams boast perfect multi-year rates and 11 earned a perfect single-year score of 1000.
The NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, which measures retention and eligibility, revealed that all the University of Iowa’s 22 sports programs were well above the 930 threshold that signals a red flag with respect to academic progress. The highlights of results for UI’s student-athletes include:
- Men’s Basketball, Men’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Cross Country, Field Hockey, Women’s Golf, Women’s Gymnastics, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Track and Field, and Volleyball had a perfect single-year score for the 2024-25 academic year.
- Men’s Golf, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, and Volleyball all scored a perfect multi-year score (2021-2022 through 2024-2025 academic years) of 1,000.
- No Hawkeye team had a multi-year score below 975, and 14 teams scored at or above the NCAA Division I multi-year APR score of 986.
Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. As tracked through the APR, more than 14,000 former college athletes have returned to school to get their degrees since the NCAA created the measurement tool. Each of those students earns back a lost APR point for their team.
