CAM Baseball Victorious over Audubon in a High Scoring Matchup

The CAM Cougars came out on top over the Audubon Wheelers in a back and forth 10-7 ballgame. The Cougars saw seperate leads of both four and five runs go away, and the game was tied at 7 by the third inning. A strong outing in relief by CAM’s Kayden Winther helped the Cougars settle in during the second half of the game. CAM would deliver three runs between the 6th and 7th innings to win and move to 13-5 on the season.

It truly felt like a new game every other innings. When CAM scored, Audubon would answer. In the first inning the Cougars took advantage of getting the first four batter aboard and extended on their season total of 160 stolen bases. Carson McKee singled in the leadoff position and came around to score, as did the next three batters. It was 4-0 before Audubon ever stepped in the box. The Wheelers got off to a hot start of their own with double from Brody Schultes and a single from Paxton Beane. Both would come around to score. 4-2 after one inning.

The game was quiet in the 2nd, but came alive again in the third. CAM added to their total with another three runs to take a 7-2 lead. Five hits, all singles drove in three and it felt like CAM had taken control. The Wheelers had a phenomenal response. Paxton Beane led off with a walk, while back to back hits by Dawson and Dalton Miller helped drive him in. Both Miller’s would score as well as two more Wheelers to make it a 7-7 ballgame

It would stay 7-7 until the top of the 6th when the top of the CAM order came through with two runs. Zach Kauffman and Collin Bower both got aboard and came home to give the Cougars cushion in the 6th. CAM added another run in the 7th and Kayden Winther finished off the Wheelers in the 7th to top off a fantastic outing in relief. Head Coach Mick Long assessed how he thought the evening went for his team.

Kayden Winther was key for the Cougars, pitching 4.1 innings in relief. He held Audubon scoreless and struck out four batters:

Part of the Cougars identity is in their speed on the base paths, which Coach Long wants to see improve from this game as his team gets closer to the District Tournament:

The CAM Cougars now sit at 13-5 with the District Tournament just a week away. Their next regular season game is on Friday when they visit the Spartans of Exira-EHK.
