No. 22 Iowa blanks Northern Illinois

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz does not feel anything decisive was established in the quarterback race after Saturday’s 40-0 win over Northern Illinois. Hanks Brown opened the game and finished 12-of-20 for 129 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Hecklinski was seven of 16 for 76 yards. He also had an interception as the 22nd ranked Hawkeyes opened with a convincing win.

Ferentz does not believe using both quarterbacks is hurting the offense.

Kamari Moulton had 183 yards of rushing and two long touchdown runs while the addition of receiver Tony Diaz has given the Hawkeyes more big play potential.

A glaring weakness was on the goal line. The Hawkeyes were oh for three on fourth down.

The 183 yards of rushing was a career high for Moulton.

Moulton says he feels a lot more confident.

Despite eight new starters the Iowa defense pitched a shutout and gave up only 120 yards of total offense. Defensive tackle Bryce Hawthorne.
