Atlantic Softball Falls to Top Ranked ADM

The Atlantic Trojans fell 7-1 to the top-ranked team in 4A, the ADM Tigers in Adel Tuesday night. Despite the scoreline, the Trojans had a very strong showing. Through four innings, Brynne Lamp and the Trojans had only allowed four runs, two of which came off a moonshot from ISU committ Lauren Hagedorn. However, the Trojans couldn’t find a way to solve pitcher McKenna Pitlick outside of a solo shot from Jilian Saathoff. Pitlick struck out 11 and only allowed 3 hits as the Tigers handed Atlantic their sixth loss of the season.

Both offensively and defensively, the Trojans got off to a fairly decent start. In the bottom of the first, Lila Wiederstein backed picked Hagedorn at second base which ultimately prevented a run. Then in the top of the second came Atlantic’s big offensive moment. Saathoff drilled on to left for her third home run of the season to put the Trojans on top.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, ADM found a quick response. After already plating two, Hagedorn sent a no-doubter halfway up an oak tree in right field extending the lead to three. Although Lamp would retire the next six in a row, the Tigers would break through again in the fifth scoring three. After coming into to a tough situation Peyton McLaren held ADM scoreless through the last two innings. However, Pitlick who had 11 strikeouts (to bring her season total to 141) held the Trojans scoreless the rest of the way.

Despite the loss, head coach Terry Hinzmann thought his ball team showed well.

Although she gave up seven runs, Lamp bounced back, retiring six in a row over the course of two innings.

Atlantic’s lone offensive moment was noting new for Saathoff

A game like this can give a picture of where a team is at, and Hinzmann is feels positive heading in to the postseason.

The Trojans will be back on the road Wednesday to face Treynor,
