Alivo Named Semifinalist for Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Redshirt freshman Kyle Alivo was named a semifinalist for the 2026 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award on Thursday.

The two-way player is integral to college baseball, and the 15 standouts named semifinalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, represent the best dual role players in the nation. Alivo is among players who have made significant contributions to their team’s success this season.

Offensively, Alivo is hitting .308 in 26 at-bats, totaling eight hits, including four doubles and one home run, while driving in seven RBIs. On the mound, the Franklin, Wisconsin, native has appeared in 10 games with two starts and has recorded two saves. He has pitched 29 innings with 31 strikeouts and owns a 3.72 ERA with a 2-2 record.

Former Hawkeye Tyler Peyton was a semifinalist for the Olerud Award in 2015.

The award is named after former Washington State standout John Olerud, who excelled as both a first baseman and left-handed pitcher in the late 1980s. He was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Hawkeyes travel to Indiana for a Big Ten series this weekend, with Friday’s game set for 5 p.m. (CT)
