(JOINT FORCE HEADQUARTERS – DES MOINES, Iowa [March 27, 2028] – The Iowa National Guard confirms that the next group of Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division are now on their way home from the Middle East, with approximately just over 200 Soldiers safely back in the United States.
In a News Release, the Guard said “These Soldiers have been deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, working alongside coalition and regional partners to significantly reduce the capabilities of ISIS in Iraq and Syria and help promote stability across the region. Their return marks continued progress toward U.S. Central Command objectives and reflects the ongoing phased redeployment of forces as mission requirements evolve.”
Not all Soldiers return at the same time. According to the Guard, the phased approach is based on mission needs, personnel requirements, and transportation availability. Every member of the force plays a vital role in ensuring mission success and a safe return home. The Iowa National Guard is currently planning two welcome home ceremonies in the Cedar Rapids area to honor these returning Soldiers. Additional details, including specific dates, times, and locations, will be released once finalized.
At this time, more than 500 Iowa National Guard Soldiers remain deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The ING continues to recognize their service and commitment as they carry out critical missions overseas.
