4 non-injury accidents in Guthrie County

(Guthrie Center, IA) – Sheriff’s officials in Guthrie County say no injuries were reported following four separate accidents over the past week.

An accident Monday morning, June 22nd near Menlo, caused $10,000 damage to a 2024 Western Star tanker truck hauling hazardous material, and registered to Heritage Distribution, LLC, from Evansville, IN. Authorities say the vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Johnny Lawrence, of Perry, was traveling west on 315th Street at around 12:50-p.m., when for reasons unknown the truck left the road and entered the north ditch before rolling onto its passenger side. The report did not indicate if any hazardous material was spilled. Lawrence was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

An accident near Panora at around 2-a.m. Sunday, in Guthrie County, caused an estimated $1,501 damage to a 2023 Chevy Blazer, driven by 18-year-old Siri Barlow, of Waukee. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was traveling on a section of Wagon Road, which was closed to all traffic due to road maintenance, when the SUV left the road on a left-hand curve at the Morrisburg Church. Authorities say the vehicle drove straight-off the road and continued in the grass to follow the curve of the road. The SUV hit a Guthrie County-owned curved-road indicator sign and a mailbox belonging to a rural home owner, before Barlow over-corrected, and drove across the road over a strip of piled-up gravel being used for shoulder repair on Wagon Road. The vehicle came to rest after it rolled onto its top on the west side of Wagon Road.

At around 5-a.m. Saturday, a 2021 VW Jetta driven by 33-year-old Candy Palacios-Garcia, of Boone, was traveling east on Highway 44 in Guthrie County, when the car struck a deer on the road. The impact caused an estimated $8,000 damage to the Jetta.

And, at around 9:50-a.m. Saturday, a 2026 Chevy Equinox SUV driven by 59-year-old Kelly Pitsenbarger, of Adel, was backing-up from a Guthrie County Quality Meats parking lot, in Guthrie Center, when it struck a 2021 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by 57-year-old Jennifer Adamovicz, of Panora. The collision caused a sheriff’s estimated total of $2,000 damage. No citations were issued.
