(Red Oak, IA) – A woman from Montgomery County, Thursday, issued a statement on behalf of the landowners who have been fighting to protect their property rights for the last five years, with regard to the news Summit Carbon Solutions is reducing their pipeline impact on Iowa.
Jan Norris, a resident of the North Township in Montgomery County, says the project is currently two-years behind schedule, and cannot begin construction in Iowa. Summit doesn’t have permits to sequester the CO2, cannot use eminent domain in South Dakota, and their conditional Iowa permit is caught up in court. Norris says “Things are not going well for Summit so making this big change was likely a Hail Mary to try to salvage the billion dollars their investors have sunk into it.
“Although 200 miles are being removed from the project,” Norris says the owners of nearly 4,000 parcels in Iowa are still living in limbo not knowing what’s going to happen. Property rights are still unprotected from private industry as the state senate chose not to discuss an eminent domain bill.”
Norris concluded by saying, “This is not over, but clearly, a victory for SW Iowa and demonstrates the power of people standing together.” She said also, if you would like to know more, a meeting is being held at the Red Oak Pizza Ranch on Tuesday, May 26th, beginning at 6-p.m.
