Initial storm event & damage report, 6/11/26

Severe storms that formed in eastern Nebraska early this (Thursday) morning, raced eastward into southwest and western Iowa, pounding many areas with wind ranging from 55-to as high as 90-miles per hour, large hail and heavy rain that resulted in flash flooding. The National Weather Service Offices in Omaha/Valley, NE., and Des Moines, have compiled a chronology of the storm events and aftermath, reported by storm spotters, Automated and Personal Weather Stations, and MESONET sites (A regional network of observing stations (usually surface stations) designed to diagnose mesoscale weather features and their associated processes). 8:00-a.m. Flash Flooding in Creston (reports of approx. 6″ of rapidly flowing water near W. Mills & N. Oak Streets

7:00-a.m., 6″ of rain in Sidney

6:55-a.m., Tstrm wind gust 70 mph in Creston; 1″ diameter hail in Afton

6:53-a.m., Tstrm wind gust 70 mph 1 mile SW of Adair

6:50-a.m., Tstrm wind damage in Creston

6:47-a.m., Tstrm wind gust 64 mph 6 miles NE of Audubon

6:45-a.m., 1″ hail in Creston

6:38-a.m., Tstrm wind gust 68 mph 1 mile N/NW of Audubon

6:36-a.m., Flash Flooding in Essex; Knee-deep water in some areas of town

6:34-a.m., 1″ hail in Clarinda

6:30-a.m., Tstrm wind damage 3 miles N/NW of Anita; Flash Flooding in Clarinda (several inches of water over the roads); Flash Flooding in Shenandoah; several tree limbs down in Corning; roads flooded near Sidney; Damage assessment being conducted in Corning.

6:13-a.m., 58 mph Tstrm wind gust 4.5-miles W. of Hepburn

6:12-a.m., 66 mph Tstrm wind gust 3.8 miles SE of Stanton; Several trees down 3 miles SW of Villisca; Power lines down on the Page/Montgomery County line…many roads in the area blocked by trees.
