The University of Northern Iowa is seeking a sponsor for the first time to buy the naming rights to the UNI-Dome (U-nee-dome), but it could be awhile before the deal is closed. Panther Sports Properties General Manager Mike Murray says they are looking at all options.
Murray says it’s become more common for stadiums naming rights to be sold as universities look for more income. He says there is a lot of potential.
He says they are in the exploration phase right now and they’ll know more about what company or entity might he interested as they move along. Murray says the UNI-Dome has become a facility that is recognized for many things beyond Panther sports.
The N-C-A-A has approved teams selling uniform patches on jerseys, and Murray says that’s something U-N-I is also looking at.
Murray says there are several steps in the timeline, and he expects it to take several months to get through before a sponsorship is awarded.
