IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore Ryan Shellberg has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. This is Shellberg’s first career honor.
Shellberg led Iowa with a runner-up finish at the Calusa Cup this past weekend. He posted all three rounds under par, carding a four-under 68 in the first round, one-under 71 in the second, and three-under 69 in the third. Overall, he played 47 of 54 holes at par or better during the tournament.
His career-best 208 total marks the best 54-hole performance by a Hawkeye at the Calusa Cup and ties for 28th all-time in program history.
The Hawkeyes competed against a field of ranked teams at Calusa Pines, including No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Florida, No. 34 Louisville, No. 45 Purdue, and No. 50 South Florida. Shellberg also finished ahead of nine ranked players in a 40-man field.
