The Principal Charity Classic is underway at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines. It is the first of three rounds of competition. Deanna Strable is president and CEO of Principal Financial.
It is the 20th year the company has served as title sponsor of the PGA Tour Champions event.
The Wakonda Club received several days of rain this week but dodged the storms on Thursday morning the caused extensive damage in southwest Iowa. Aaron Kruger is Wakonda’s director of golf.
The course received a little under an inch of rain on Thursday.
Kruger says they adjusted the rules because many of the fairways were still soggy at the start of the opening round.
