Nuguse and Wiley claim US one mile road titles in Des Moines

Olympic bronze medalist Yared Nuguse held off two-time defending champ Vince Ciattei, Tuesday, to win the US One Mile Road Championship on the streets of downtown Des Moines. His winning time of 3 minutes, 54 point oh-six seconds is a record for the event.

Nuguse and Ciattei earned a spot on the U-S team that will compete at the World Championships in Denmark in September. Addy Wiley broke away from a large pack of runners to win the women’s title. Her winning time was four minutes, 25 point-42 seconds.

Wiley is coming off an indoor season in which she won bronze at the World Championships in the 800 meters.

Wiley and runner-up Gracie Hyde will both represent the U-S in Denmark.
