Northern Iowa football coach Todd Stepsis is in favor of the so-called “five-for-five” rule adopted by the NCAA. The new standard will grant athletes five years to complete five seasons of competition.
The new rule ends the practice of red-shirting, which was common in the sport of football.
Stepsis says because of the new rule two Panther seniors and two underclassmen get an extra year to play.
Stepsis says four current players on the UNI roster will be getting an added year.
